Responding to the reports that French Justice Minister Rachida Dati has been sacked by President Sarkozy, Diana Wallis MEP, Liberal group spokesperson on the European Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee has sent her a note of best wishes.
Diana said:
"During the French Presidency in the second half of 2008 I worked very closely with Mrs Dati on a number of key issues which are important to people in the UK, not least on access to ejustice and an Europe-wide alert system for missing children. It's disappointing to read that she has now been sacked.
"If we are to believe the reports over the weekend Mrs. Dati is to stand as a MEP in the elections in June. If she is successful she will be a very welcome addition to our ranks. I am a bit concerned that some newspapers seem to think that getting elected to the European Parliament is some sort of political exile which of course it is not as symbolised by the fact that Mrs Dati has shown her intent to come here rather than to her own Parliament".
